What kinds of security issues are we seeing now that a lot of workers are remote?
Lately, folks in the industry have seen an increase in DDoS attacks, social engineering ransomware scams, as well as physical security break-ins. Universities, for example, seem to be experiencing a rise in phishing attacks. Just the other day, I received two phone calls with voice mails from the IRS telling me that I am the subject of an audit, that I need to contact them right away to pay an initial payment with my Visa card. Call me a tax evader, but I deleted the voice mails. But some of the scams are actually quite convincing, especially as workers are now in a new environment. Any time you break your routines, it’s easy for scammers and attackers to exploit what is effectively a new attack surface.
